Guess what I did tonight? I ran. I did pretty good too considering it's been 11 months since I ran. I started at Shrader and Page, ran to Masonic, up to Hayes and all the way back to Stanyan without stopping. Slow and steady wins the race!
We started out 10 hour figure painting today. I couldn't get into my locker, we had to cut the lock off. It's kinda been one of those days. Atleast I finally have my development environment set up at work. I got all my Christmas show stuff taken care of. Just a paper and a final left for this semester then I get to take a breather. I go to Monterey by myself on Friday to have fun but I miss Tom already.

I tackled the monster in the corner of our room today. It's been speadily growing over the past couple years. What was once a bookshelf, had turned into some sort of magnetic ball of random crap. It took several hours just to pull everything out of the corner. I was able to remove two power strips and lots of junk. I freed up so much bookshelf space that I actually have 1 semi emtpy shelf in the house now. Weird. Better go buy more books. We are also now able to get back into our closet, but depending on how well I do at the Holiday sale, we might have to just block it back up again with paintings.

Today we drove to Pacific Grove to drop off artwork for the Holiday Sale at the Lisa Coscino Gallery. Those gals are pretty darn funny. We talked for a long time about psychics, motorcycles, french fries, pirates, you name it. I'm going back next Friday for the opening party. I am going to stay at a little B&B down the street and hopefully I can see Natalie too.
We spent so much time hanging out with the womaen at the gallery that we ran out of time to go to the Aquarium. We instead got some food, drinks, a walk, pie and coffee. It was a very nice day. I like my boyfriend a lot.

Today was a pretty magical day. We woke up around 10. I read about Java and Macs for a while. Then we made coffee, I ate some oatmeal. We got the turkey in the oven then walked around Haight street. I like Haight street on Thanksgiving. It's really quite. Nothing to do except drink coffee, buy liquor and buy pipes and bongs. We got some coffee and then walked around the panhandle.
Then we checked the bird and headed over to Golden Gate park for some skateboarding/rollerblading. There were a few families about. We heard kids screaming about pie. "Pumpkin pie!" "I can eat a whole pie in one gulp!" Then we came home, popped a bottle of chardonnay, at some really yummy cheese, pears and olives. Then we finished cooking and sat down to an insanely good Thanksgiving meal. Now we are drinking wine, calling relatives, and will watch some movies. We got Lion in Winter and Russian Arc.

Well, here's what I did yesterday. I was a great day at the studio. I had the whole place all to myself so I listened to The Decemberists really loud on the stereo over and over again. These bad boys are about 11" x 11", are encaustic on wood panel, and are available for sale for $100 if you are interested. They go to Pacific Grove though On Friday or Saturday so speak now or forever hold your pieces. The lamb one was taken in full daylight. The photo is too sharp, too contrasty. It's got texture, but it's softer than that. Wax is hard to photograph.
Today was my first day at my new job. I had a pretty good day. I am happy to be there and that's the important part. Seems like a fun project. We just ran into some snafoos getting me a machine to work on. Still a fairly productive first day considering.
I got my fancy badge and all my outlook, proxy server stuff that one is given when one becomes employed by a large company. After such a hectic week last week, trying to finish everything up, it was quite surreal. It felt like the old Guru days, walking around the block to get some food. Lots of people everywhere. All in their mid 20s to 40s, all look like they think about what they wear in the morning, all look like that graduated from some college somewhere. Quite a contrast to working on Treat street with the hookers and human feces. I gotta say, there are things about it that are kind of comforting. Like I am a part of some sort of contributing society. Not sure what we are contributing, but we are all busy doing something. The human race. It's fun. It'll be fun to be in the heart of the business world in my city.
There are things about my job that are not like T2 and are more like Guru and Apple, and geez that feels nice right now. Contrasts, I suppose, always feel nice. Anyway, I am happy. I'm feeling the scars from when Guru broke my heart. They tingle a little and remind me of the good times. I walked by Gordon Beirsch and remembered the night Mod, Steve and I went there before the Guru awards. Such good memories. Oh to be part of a pack.

OK, time to get cracking. I am going to spend the day at the studio getting some encaustics done for various holiday sales. I am thinking about some still-lifes with a little bit of an Alanna flair.
Mod and Jesse are writing blogs!

What a great day. I'm glad I was able to finish up with all my Timbuk2 work so that I could have a free weekend before starting my new job on Monday. Did I tell you I got a 2 month contract at the Gap? I will be working with Veronica again! Hurray! Today we got up late and watched cooking shows.
Tom made a big breakfast and we took a nap. Pretty good start for a Saturday. I spent a couple hours figuring out all the classes I need to take in the next couple years both for my BFA at CCA and my AA from city college. Looks like I only have to take one additional class from City College and it's gonna be a fun one anyway. I have about 7 non art classes to take and abot 3 or 4 art classes. I better get cracking. Looks like next semester will either be Ecology (for my sciences), Anthropology or maybe History of SF as my history elective. I think I can finish all my school in three years but you never know what's going to happen.

I'm almost free. moments away from walking out the door of Timbuk2 for the last time. The CEO came in the room and said goodbye, then seemed to stand there as if he were waiting for me to say something. But I had nothing to say except thanks and bye. Maybe he was just looking for something to say himself, but had nothing too.

Oh! Oh! I just thought of a really great upside to dyslexia. When the simplest words seem to vanish from your brain when you need them the most, you are forced to think of more creative ways of saying things. Sometimes you come up with pretty cool stuff, but probably for the most part, you just sound like someone on drugs. Wait, maybe I am on drugs. Hmph, Better go to sleep.

Buy my stuff!
You heard me, go buy my little pastel drawings for christmas presents. Everybody wants one. You will be the coolest kid on the block if you give these as presents.
Aya! So busy! Lynn wants me to do some sample menus for 2 person Thanksgiving meals. It sounds like fun but if I do it, it'll be by the seat of my pants. I'm feeling the heat of all the change and responsibilities in my life today. We painted nudes in class, which was really really fun, NAKED! but I primed 8 pieces of matt board and 7 of them are all painted on already! We have another class of quick studies then a 10 hour study that'll last til the end of the semester. So I have to get more matt board and prime more stuff today since I work and have class all day tomorrow. I need to go to the hardware store, buy a panel, prime it and get it to class by Thursday am. I may try to do all of this tonight. I got a parking ticket at school today and I hate taking the car there.
My last day at Timbuk2 is next Wednesday, I'll just be on call for another week after that. I have so much work to do before I leave so I'm trying to get in a lot of hours this week and weekend. The good news is most of it I can do from home. I have a 1000 word paper due by December 8th and I never finished my 2500 word paper. I think I need to rewrite a lot of it. I'm not really sure when that's going to happen.
The day after Thanksgiving I have to drive to Pacific Grove to drop off some work for a christmas sale and I'm not even sure what I'm bringing. Then the next Monday I have to drop off 4 paintings at the Lola Gallery for their Christmas show. I have to finish the collage piece at home and the self portrait piece at the studio by december 14th. Can you say INSANE? I can't, I don't have time. ha, just kidding. Oh, and I'm interviewing at a couple places for some contract work. Crazy crazy crazy. I can't wait for it to be december 14th. That's the last day of school.
But Lynn, might I suggest roasting a chicken, diablo style (Jhina's recipe) instead of turkey? Cuz it's really yummy. Note to self: Hmm, I wonder if Jhina minds me spreading her recipe all over the world. I better ask her. And you could have asparagus sauteed with red peppers and lemon juice, with a sprinkle of peccorino romano on top and mixed baby green salad with dried cranberries, spiced pecans and goat cheese. and then baked sweet potato wedges with salt pepper and parmegiano or peccorino romano. That's what I'd have. And there aren't even that many starches in there, I know you hate the starches. Me, I'll probably eat McDonalds. OK, just kidding. I'm a big freak today.

We walked around Golden Gate park yesterday and I'm so out of shape that just a long walk made me super sore. How sad is that? I went to the Moma to start working on my final paper for Art History class, and i picked up my pastels from The Lab but I was so tired and sore. I took a long nape when I got home.
Tonight we went to Veronica's for dinner. I tried a very small piece of scallop (I don't eat fish). It was ok and I decided if I were starving to death and it was the only thing available to eat, I would eat it.

I never shared my chair story with you, my dear reader. We were coming home from somewhere and parked the car up the street. I have all this crap in the back of the car that I've been meaning to take to Goodwill but never get around to it. I said "Let's just leave this here and if it's still here in the morning, I'll put it back in the trunk. It was one of those foot spas that I had used while my foot was healing. I left it on the sidewalk. Not 20 feet later, I ran into this chair. It was so cue I had to have it. So now I use it as my desk chair instead of the stupid Home Depot nasty grey wobbly chair I've been using. I'm much happier. I ended up leaving the office chair outside too and it was gone within an hour. I love San Francisco.

Today is Kaolin's last day at Timbuk2. I'm sad he's leaving me but I will be gone soon anyway.
Tonight I'm going to the Funky Puppet Supper at CellSpace. Something about a puppet show while enjoying a three course meal. Wacky. If you show up early, you get to make puppets.

What a difference a day makes.
Here are photos of my latest painting. The one of the left was taken before today's session, the one on the right is today's work. I'm pretty happy with it. Might even call it done. I think the chrome on the airstreem came out pretty satesfactory and I like that I added some pinks into the sand.

I just quit my job. Feels good but kinda scarey. Not sure what I'm going to do about money but I'm free anyway. I'm very close to an AA degree so if job opportunities don't surface, maybe I'll do a full time semester. Weee! And no one is here today so I'm kinda lonely. No one to talk to.
If you know anyone who needs freelance or contract work, web design and/or development, email me.

I spent much of my time friday afternoon sitting on mountaintops high, trying to figure out what I'm doing with my life. Although I didn't come up with any final solutions, I feel a lot better about things. I'm not so emotionally involved in the day to day anyway, which feels nice. My stomach was eating itself from stress and aggrevation.

Look, I'm published. Blurb I wrote up on the Helnwein show. I'm kind of embarrassed because it's an unedited note I just published on my weblog without ever thinking anyone else would ever care.

We went to Joe and Stacie's tonight for some dinner and fun. Little Morris is so damn cute. He's getting close to 6 months old.
I spent a lot of time this weekend working on my collage piece for school. I could really get into decopauge. Maybe next year for the postcard show I'll do all decopauge.
I went to the studio today and worked on my painting on panel. It's such a different surface it's like I'm learning to paint all over again. I think it's probably a good thing, it's making me try new things.

I'm much happier today than I was yesterday. Ugghh, yesterday was a very bad day. Today I am trying to focus on other things. San Francisco had such a bright light of hope about us on Tuesday and it was squashed yesterday. Today is about building new dreams and not focusing on the negative.

Vote Early, Vote Often
I can't concentrate today. I want to stare at websites all day until they tell me that John Kerry is my new president. I've been bouncing around on a wiki page on Tentacle waiting for some sort of sign. Which is really silly because it's only 1:45 pm pacific time. I think it's going to be a long day.
So far, this is my favorite election day toy. It's a map of the US with colors showing what states voted which way for the last 6 elections. You can create your own results by clicking on the states to switch their colors. I'm having a good time talking the states into voting democrat. So far I've convinced three states to go Democrat and Kerry is up 312. Go play. It's pretty intersting looking back through the last 6 elections and seeing how the country voted.
Voter Alert Line call volumes per state
I kinda destroyed my stomach this weekend. It's very sensitive in general and when its unhappy, I should really be taking care of it instead of going out to fancy dinenrs and drinking cappucinos and vodka appertifs. My stomach is better today but feels like my insides were scraped out. I'm off coffee for a while and am having a nice cup of tea instead. I still feel a little down in the dumps. When my stomach hurts, it makes me feel tired and icky.

Buy my pastel drawings. They are $16 each and come in a nice pine frame.
Tomorrow is the big day. Are you ready?
Welcome to November. It's going to be another busy month for me. I have a couple Chritmas sales to get ready for and have lots of schoolwork to do. My coworker just gave notice so things might be a little nutty at work. Time to take a deep breath and hope for the best.
The Critical i A monthly column on art stuff in the e-zin "The NW Drizzle".
The Bellwether Gallery Has a great website.
Flo McGarrell is having an exhibit at the Lisa Dent Gallery November 4th through the 27th. She does lots of inflated space installations. Go check out the fun stuff on her website. I especially like "Emboweled" since I have such a "special" relationship with my intestines.
It's ok to not be productive for a few days right? Because I feel sick and depressed and just want to curl up with a good book. So at 6pm on Monday I will stop fighting and go with my instincts. Book and bed and pjs for me for the rest of the day. And maybe some nice tea and a baked potato later.
