Tonight I have a hot date with my man. We're gong to Côté Sud. They make lots of things with rabbits and ducks and mushroom sauce but I'm not eating any small, cute animals. I might eat some big, cute animals though.

I was queen of lazy. I had a headache so I sat on the couch and read a trashy Hollywood rag from cover to cover. Then I finally finished Orynx and Crake.

While placing stamps on all my postcards today, a woman walked in and answered her cellphone. She was kinda frumpy, outdated overgrown hairstyle, baggy clothes, probably in her mid 40s. She was talking to her friend about how tired she was. She said she'd been up til 3 watching porn. She said it so casually, she could have been talking about knitting. Just thought it was kinda funny. That porn is so normal that people don't mind talking about it in public places like post offices on their cellphones. I guess it's not taboo anymore, might as well start showing it on regular tv stations, seeing as how popular it is. Porn for the masses.

I went to Goat Hill pizza for all you can eat Mondays with Shannon and Jason. I didn't eat so much pizza that I wanted to die, and that was really nice. Goat Hill is crazy on Mondays. There's a huge line and you have to wait quite a bit. But once inside, they shove so many slices of pizza at your cake hole, it's hard to keep up. It's pretty easy to go overboard.

I stayed in bed very very late today and read many chapters of the Davinci Code. It's a great Sunday. I spent the rest of the afternoon labelling my postcards for the august show. Then I walked to Andronico's for some pasta and goodies for dinner. I'm making Pappardelle pasta with prosciutto, peas, muchrooms, and goat cheese, with a salad and steamed cauliflower. Yum!
On my way back from Andronico's, I saw a giant dog in the park with all the crazy drum circle hippies. He was part black lab, part Great Dane. He looked like a larger than normal black lab with gigantically long legs. He was prancing around like a grand horse.
I painted this hippo yesterday. He's 10"x10". I really like him. I did another one with hippo momma and baby that I like a lot too but the photo is blurry.

I finally got around to getting the photos from torodel ready for the web. Here they are.
I made a soyrizo scramble today. I started getting an organic produce box from Planet Organics yesterday. I felt like it was Chritmas. I got a billion peaches, nectarines and plums, plus califlower, carrots, spinach, lettuce, cucumber, celery, oranges, bananas, grapefruits. Between those peaches and the peaches I've been picking out of the backyard, i think a have no choice but to make a peach cobbler. Problem is, they are so good on their own, I don't want to bake them. They deserve more respect than that. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Todday at Cala I saw a big bear of a man, looking ominously over the dairy section. He had long grey wavey hair and a big beard. He looked like he has probably most of his life on a Harley. As I walked by he started growling like a bear "Rooowwwwwggggrrroowww".

Health update. My back is in pretty good shape. It's not 100% but it's damn close. I did an assisted back bend in yoga class last friday. That's pretty darn good if you ask me. Also I'm over my weight loss plateau and have lost another 1.5 pounds. Making my total loss so far at 21.5 pounds. I've got 18.5 more to go.
Just found a funny random music review for Lambchop's album Aw CMon:
Maybe I'm a little too drunk...or maybe it's a little too early in the morning...but some of Lambchop's lyrics seem like they've been crafted by cutting up the fortunes from Chinese cookies and mixing the words around.

Best opening line of an album ever:
You look like butter wouldn't melt in your mouth. But I know it will, Homewrecker. You look like you could take candy from a baby. I've seen you do it, homewrecker. No one can wreck a home better than you can. And I should know cuz I'm a harmless man.

I just got a very nice email from this man about my terror robot painting:
Alanna
I was searching in google pics for some scary robots to illustrate an idea I'm trying to put across to some visual people for a tour I have coming up and when I typed in 'terror robot' your was the first one I saw and all I'm trying to say in an extremely rambling way is that I thought, I think, that your painting is ace.
Thats all, keep safe

My head is a great big balloon now, the expensive mylar kind that last for a really long time. Thanks Martin!

Today was nice and lazy. We went to the Pork Store for breakfast then just kinda lounged around all day. Michelle came over to work on our postcard but the rest of the day was spend browsing through magazines and making sushi.
I made spicey tofu sushi and spinach sushi with hot peanut sauce. Yum! I need to get better nori though. The nori I got is too thin and it falls apart and gets all mushy.
I signed up for planet organics today. They are bonded by an insurance company to accept gate keys so I can get stuff when I'm not home.

I got a spam email today with the title: "i trust my father. he gave me everything. adjourn". Although I was very tempted to open it, I didn't.
My best friend and I haven't been getting along well for nearly 4 years now. Today I called her and told her I was sorry and that I loved her and missed her. Sometimes it seems like it's not worth the trouble, trying to figure out our problems. I realized when you love someone that much, it is worth the trouble. And the fact of the matter is, If I ever want to be really happy, I have no choice. Sometimes the hardest things in life can be the most rewarding if we let them.

Made an appointment to see a doctor at the spine center at UCSF. I don't get to go until Augst 20th. I tried to go to yoga last but decided to just stretch, lay on the floor and then go out for sushi. :)
The pain is making me a not very fun person but I'm trying. I feel like the bags under my eyes are growing. I'm so paranoid about waking up in pain in the morning that I roll around all night. La la la
We are going to some bowling alley tonight in san mateo or something to see Todd's band play. But first I will go to yoga at 3. Right after I finish this giant coffee.

Last night I made a very yummy couscous salad after getting back from Ger's and a fun trip to Trader Joe's.
Today I added my class schedule to my calendar and am getting excited about the Fall semester. I'm taking History of Modern Art and Beginning Painting. I'll have classes three times a week and will knock off 10 percent of the classes I need to get my BFA. Weee!

Teeange Rebelion Strikes Unexpectedly
Everybody knows there are certain things you should never try to do by yourself. Like cut your own hair, or give yourself a root canal or tatoo your own back. Well I had one of those rebelious teenager moments where I decided it was a really great idea to cut my own hair. It's actually not bad. I think maybe it's not good, but it's not bad. I figured since I wanted to go for a messy bed head look, I really couldn't go wrong. So now I have died and cut messy bed-head hair. It will probably be really embarrassing for me when I have to break down and go to an actual hairdresser to fix the mes I've created, but in the meantime, I'm just going to enjoy my new rebelious side.

An Evening on the Farm
I went a saw Ger and all her animals tonight in Richmond after my chiropractor appointment. Every time I see my chiropractor I end up crying because I'm so tired of being in pain. My rib has been screwed up for nearly 4 years now and I don't like it one bit. It was nice to see Ger and hang out with her new cat Pablo. We trimmed his nails and I gave Ger some tips of cat nail trimming. He has deadly claws and uses them affectionalty in ways most people wouldn't find very charming. Now they are not as sharp so it's fun to pet him. He's very very nice, we bonded quite a bit when I was there. He wouldnt' get off my lap so I had to scoop him up and move him. We took the three dogs for a walk along point richmond. Quite a scene. Dogs everywhere sniffing butts and peeing on bushes. It was great fun. I should have taken some pictures. I'm just not in a picture taking mood lately.

Itty Bitty Baby!
I went to Joe, Stacie and Morris's tonight. It was my first time meeting little Morris who was born on June 27th. He's so damn cute. I got to see him in action. We was very awake and in his "state of wonderment" when I first got there. Then I got to see him eat, bath, poo, cry, poo and sleep. It was very exciting. Little babies have the cutest little noses. It was also very nice to see Joe and Stacie. I get them some baby clothes. Baby stuff is too cute. I got them a body suit with duck feet and another suit with a fury bear butt.
Before heading to the East Bay, I brought all the stuff that's been piling up in our hallway to Green Apple books and Goodwill, then bought some New Zealand travel books for our trip in September.

Sunny and Buster We went horseback riding today at Andrew Molera Horseback riding. It was Tom's first time on a horse and he loved it. I got the feisty horse, Sunny which I liked. I like a horse with personality. Tom had Buster, a very very nice horse. We just took a quick 1 hour tour to the beach and back. Got to trot a bit and take some photos. I see a lot more horesback riding in our future.
We rode up Hwy1 to Santa Cruz and decided to take 35 back. Seemed like a lot of traffic going through Santa Cruz. 35 was beautiful. It made me want to run away from the city forever. Made me want to do more hiking.
My foot did so well on this trip. I was able to do some walking in the river. It held up well to all the hiking. Only bugged me a tiny bit. I'm kinda amazed at how well its doing. I think I might try running just a little tiny bit. Like around half the pan handle and see how it does.

Today was a lazy day. We were going to try to ride horses but they were all booked up so we drove along Hwy1 and visited some galleries. We stopped by the Henry Miller Library which is one of his old houses in Big Sur. There is a ping pong table, a little drink bar where you can order coffee or tea, a nice patio to hang out on. There are a few nice sculptures in the garden and lots of paintings inside. You can buy books or look at old books. There's a room with a video about Henry Miller running. It's a very nice place. We poked around for a while then headed up to the Coast Gallery to see more of Henry Miller's art. I actually didn't even know he paintined and turns out his written what appear to be some great books about painting.
We then headed to another gallery. Ooooh, what's the name, I'll think of it in a minute... Hawthorne Gallery. It's got beautiful architecture. It was made out of old water towers. The art didn't do much for me except for these very cool glass sculptures of jelly fish.
After a couple more little stops we headed back to camp and walked up to the restaurant for some burgers and chicken wings. Then nap time, a long walk down the river, a little magazine reading, and more hanging out by the fire time.

Hey Buddy, can you direct me to the nearest nature? We went on multiple hikes today. We started at camp and tried to find our way to Big Sur State Park but kept getting blocked or the trails will do a 180 on us. We did some crazy mountaneering through poison oak and loose gravel on steep drops. We finally got to Big Sur, ate some sandwiches and headed up to Pfeiffer Falls. After the falls we went up Valley View which takes you to a high peak in the park. We could see our campgrounds from the view which overlooks hwy 1, the river and the campgrounds along the river. There's a very nice benchh up there. We then headed doena dn got some Lapert's ice cream at Big Sur Station. There was a wedding party taking place. I wanted to steal some cake but figured we didn't have much of a getaway plan.
We then grabbed a 12 pack of corona, a lime and some very nifty river shoes and walked home down Hwy1. We took our chairs down to the river and sat in the river with our feet soaking, enjoying our coronas. There could have been no better moment than that.
We walked up to the restaurant bar and had a couple beers with all the Hell's Angels. The whole big sur area had tons and tons of Harleys everywhere.

I let Tom sleep in late today and we started on our journey to Big basin at about noon or 1. We just made one stop in Half moon bay for sandwiches which took a thousand years to make, groceries and a bank deposit. The traffic on 1 around capitola was the pits but that was all the traffic we saw. We got to big sur around 5 I think and set up camp. It took a while to switch my brain to camping mode but we were soon drinking beer, playing cards and enjoying a nice fire.

Happy July 1st! We are heading to Big Sur tomorrow for a fun 4 day camping trip (to Fernwood in Big Sur).
So over three years ago (it'll be 4 years in september) I hurt my back on a rafting trip. I woke up the next day in excrutiating pain. I waited 4 months to go to the chiropractor. They x-rayed me and found that I had a rib out of place, the 12th 'floater' rib on my right side. They did some adjustments, tried to put it back in it's place and set me up on a maintenace plan of every 3 to 6 months. It hurts most of the time. Well atleast 50 percent of the time. It hurts mostly when I sleep. I wake up with a stiff back that I have to stretch out. Usually after an hour or two my back has loosened up. Waking up 50 percent of the time with a sore back just plain sucks.
I try to not think about it but lately it's been hard not to. It hurts a lot right now. I had a deep tissue massage last week that put me out of commission for 1 day and made the next 2 days hell. I weent back yesterday and cried my eyes out. I don't want to go through the rest of my life like this. It sucks. Sucks sucks sucks. I think I will try another doctor just to get a second opinion. Even if they tell me "Yeah, nothing anyone can do" I'll at least feel better that I tried.
Here's what I found out about my injury:
The ribs connect with the vertebrae in the thoracic spine by two joints that connect with each side of the spine. Dysfunction in these joints can result in upper back pain.
Treatment for this type of injury usually includes manual manipulation (with an osteopathic physician, chiropractor or a physical therapist trained in manipulation) to help mobilize the joint and reduce the discomfort. Lasting relief usually also requires a home exercise program for stretching the spine and shoulders as well as strengthening. Aerobic conditioning is also very important to maintain sustained pain relief.
In addition to manual treatments, pain medications can help. Usually the most helpful medications are the anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen or COX-2 inhibitors), as the joint dysfunction can create inflammation.
Injections (e.g. epidural steroid injections) are usually not warranted for thoracic pain other than local trigger point injection.
So maybe I am doing all I can, and I need to go to yoga more. Funny, I haven't been doing yoga because my back hurts too much. What the hell do I do about that? Grin and bare it I guess.
